Lippo Village, August 13, 2016, the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) along with UPH, held a 3D neurosurgery lecture, which was the first ever modern lecture for future doctors and neurosurgeons in the world. Through this event, participants were given the opportunity to experience a realistic visualization of the brain anatomy, with the help of the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) system as the media.

The lecture was held for two days, from August 13 to 14, 2016 at the Cinemaxx Theatre, Maxx Boxx Lippo Village, using a cinema setting with an 18 meters silver screen. The lecture was delivered by a number of key speakers, such as Professor Eka J. Wahjoepramono, MD, PhD, the Head Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UPH, Thomas Santanius, MD, from the Neuroscience Department of the University of Cambridge, UK and Professor Vladimir Benes, MD, PhD, a member of the Neurosurgery Anatomy Committee of WFNS from the Czech Republic and there also 6 other key speakers who were present.

According to Prof. Eka, this kind of event could rarely be find in Indonesia and other countries in South East Asia. This method of lecturing is actually very effective, especially in terms of learning Neuroanatomy.

“Through this event, I hope that the material delivered could be more clear and profound, because with this method, students could imagine themselves being inside the operation room,” explained Prof. Eka.

Prof. Eka as one of the initiators of this event, has also planned to introduce this new lecturing method to various cities in Indonesia, “We will draw an evaluation from this event, if it succeeded, we will begin introducing this method to other regions as soon as possible, so that they can experience lectures with cinema setting,” said Prof. Eka.

This 3D Lecture was followed by 400 participants, which consisted of neurosurgeon from various countries, as well as the students of UPH Faculty of Medicine.

Ella, a medicinal student, who was also participated in WFNS 3D Cinema Lectures 2016, expressed her views on this innovative lecture method, ”The event is very intriguing and moreover, all of the key speakers are highly qualified. I really hope that there would be another lecture like this, with an even more diverse choice of topics, so students could easily understand the materials given.”
